After a refreshment stop at the tarmac, the route continues along a fast but winding 50 km section of hard-packed sand.

Lunch is served picnic-style beneath an acacia tree near the Bou Azzer gold mine. The afternoon continues through low desert hills before reaching the open plateau leading toward Foum Zguid.
